SUMMARY:Hale Creek (West Harrison) Maintenance/Newbie Run
DESCRIPTION:We welcome those who enjoy using their four-wheel-drive vehicle to explore and discover beautiful places. If you have no experience driving your 4×4 ‘ off-road’ in difficult or rough terrain and want to gain knowledge and experience in a friendly\, knowledgeable\, and safe environment\, this is the event for you. \nThese monthly runs cover beginner trails and light intermediate trails. Generally\, there will be two groups leading runs: one for new drivers and another for intermediate drivers. All the usual trails are stock 4×4 accessible\, although because 4x4s vary so much in clearance\, length\, and angles\, some may involve dents and scrapes for some vehicles. Run leaders will assess your rigs before starting out to ensure the trails you run are suitable for what you want to do and are comfortable with. \nMeetup at 9:30 in the gravel lot at the four-way stop behind the Sasquatch Inn (46001 Lougheed Hwy.\, Harrison Mills\, BC V0M 1L0) for a 10:00 AM rollout. Air down at the Weaver Creek hatchery and head out for Hale Creek\, and other potential destinations such as Skwellepil Creek\, Francis Lake\, Sunrise Lake\, or North Chehalis. Depending on the turnout\, we’ll probably break into smaller groups with a choice of destinations. \n\nParticipants may leave the group any time they like\, but please be sure to inform one of the run leaders before you do. Expect the group to return to the Sasquatch by around 4:00 PM. \nOne of the goals of these runs is to help you determine what equipment\, tools\, and accessories you need; nobody should feel they aren’t “properly equipped” to attend. We recommend\, but do not require\, that you have the following: \n\nSuitable tires\, with good tread\nFull-size spare and jack for your vehicle\nTire gauge\, compressor\, and plug kit\nWork gloves\nCommon sense\nand most importantly\, bring a good attitude\n\nCommunications (optional\, but recommended): \n\nLMR 4WDABC channel 2 (Lower Mainland)\nHam 146.460MHz (ham qualification and callsign required)\nFRS/GMRS channel 4\, privacy code 0 (or off)\nCB channel 4\n(see 4wdabc.ca/communications)\n\nDuring these runs\, our members and volunteers will clean up these sites\, clear brush\, repair structures\, and remove garbage. You are welcome to participate.\nThis is a family-friendly\, drug- and alcohol-free event. \nNote: run may be rescheduled or cancelled depending on weather and road conditions; please check back here before heading out.

SUMMARY:Lost Creek/Kenyon Lake Newbie/Maintenance Run
DESCRIPTION:Formerly the Kenyon Lake Maintenance Run – Now the Sylvester Road Newbie Run. This is still stock and newbie friendly but some clearance and 4WD with low range is required. \nWe welcome those who enjoy using their four-wheel-drive vehicle to explore and discover beautiful places. If you have no experience driving your 4×4 ‘ off-road’ in difficult or rough terrain and want to gain knowledge and experience in a friendly\, knowledgeable\, and safe environment\, this is the event for you. We always welcome experienced drivers who want a relaxed day and the opportunity to help novice wheelers. \nThere is a choice of five destinations during this run\, and we can do any three of them\, time permitting. The “warm-up challenge\,” Salsbury Lake\, Tank Trap\, The Grotto\, and Kenyon Lake. If we have a large number of rigs turn out\, then we may possibly split into two groups and do things in a different order. \nFROM THE RUN LEADER:\nThis run is for novices and will feature some basic challenges. A proper four-wheel-drive vehicle with reasonable ground clearance and a willingness to learn new things is all that is required. \nWe recommend that you have the following:\n– Suitable tires\, with good tread\n– Spare and jack for your vehicle\n– Tire gauge\, compressor\, and plug kit\n– Common sense\n– and most importantly\, bring a good attitude \nThis is a family-friendly\, drug- and alcohol-free event. \nMeetup is at 9:30 am at the Husky at Lougheed Hwy. and Sylvester Rd. just east of Mission with a departure time of 10:00 am sharp to head to the air-down area. You can expect the group to return to the Husky by about 5:00 pm\, although participants can always leave early if they need to\, just make sure one of your run leaders knows you’re going.

SUMMARY:Ryan Rexin's BC Road Trip
DESCRIPTION:I’m planning a summer wheeling/road trip through southern BC and I’m inviting members to join me for all or parts of the trip!\n\n\nLeaving Edmonton\, Alberta\, Saturday July 13th 2024\n\n\nNo planned stops or camping\, just seeing where the roads take me and setting up camp when required. \nThe route includes (in no particular order):\nGrey Creek Pass (from Kimberly to Grey Creek)\nLavina Lookout\nMarblehead Quarry\nBuchanan Lookout\nSandon\nColumbia & Western Rail Trail (Castlegar to Christina Lake)\nWhipsaw\n\nHopefully\, the fire bans and weather cooperate a bit for this\, but if we need to make changes so be it. I’m also open to checking out other trails or summits along the way.\n\nGrey Creek Pass: Opens July 1\, I’ve never done it so don’t really know what to expect. sounds fairly simple from everything I read on it.\n\nLavina Lookout: this gives a beautiful view of Kootenay Lake and Duncan Lake. Will be on part of an Active logging road to access. I’m planning on tenting at the lookout.\n\nMarblehead Quarry: A small marble mine covered in colourful graffiti. We can do this either before Lavina or after (most likely before)  And yes\, you can park in it. but it’s small.\n\nBuchanan Lookout: is a quick little climb\, giving a great view of Kootenay Lake.\n\nSandon: is a little ghost town\, they have a museum there as well as BC’s 1st hydro plant\, which is still running and we can walk through it. Sandon is more a touristy thing\, but worth it. Idaho peak is accessed through Sandon\, but to my understanding\, you can’t drive to the peak anymore. and I’m not sure how far the hike is.\n\nColumbia & Western Rail Trail: Hopefully\, I can get the club to open the gate in Castlegar for the full trail. The rail trail is very easy: 2WD\, fairly flat\, but has some amazing views. Crosses a few trestle bridges and passes through a few tunnels\, one of which is around 1km long. Its really neat to drive through.\n\nWhipsaw: I’ve never been to yet\, so I’m winging that one. It sure sounds interesting.\n\nCamping:\nI plan on just Crown Land camping. I may consider a campground with showers between the Rail Trail and Whipsaw\, as we may start smelling a bit ripe by then. Could always spend some time at a beach and go for a swim to de-sweat as well.\n\nI’m not really sure where to camp\, so I am open to ideas. I spoke with the campground by Kimberly for the Grey Creek trail\, they are $50 a night to tent\, but she said there’s all sorts of crown land camping.\n\nFuel-wise\, we’ll stop when needed\, I’m carrying 22Ls just in case.\n\nDates:\nDeparting Edmonton on July 13\, 2024 (Saturday); not sure what time yet\, gauge that based upon the level of interest.\nI’m estimating this will take five days. so add in a day for side trips\, slow days\, or just in case. I’m expecting to be back in Edmonton around July 19th. Of course\, that could change. I booked the 15th to 19th off.\n\nIf you are interested in tagging along\, please let me know.\n\nThings you’ll need:\nFood.\nDrinks/Water.\nCamping gear.\nSwimwear/camping clothes\, stuff like that.\nAnd whatever you have for recovery gear.\nSome trails we’ll air down for. Play that as we go.\n\nthanks\nRyan
